MOTHER! Darren Aronofsky and the lovely Jennifer Lawrence
Darren Aronofsky presented at the Venice Film Festival as part of the competition program his new surreal film, almost horror, a paranoid parable “Mom!” (according to the creators, the title of the film is written with a small letter). We attended the press screening in Venice. The film was booed by journalists. Is he that bad?
How was it?
If a film is presented at a film festival as part of the official program, then several press screenings are arranged for journalists on the morning of the premiere, sometimes even the day before. The session, which was arranged by the organizers at 8:30 a.m., turned out to be hot. Some left the hall. Someone fidgeted nervously in their chair and sighed. The end of the film clearly did not please the public. "Mom!" they booed loudly and displeasedly.
Is the movie that bad? Why didn't you like Venice? Mother! ?
A prominent man, the Poet (Javier Bardem), and his lovely young wife, the Muse (Jennifer Lawrence), live in an old house in the middle of the forest. The poet has been unsuccessfully searching for inspiration for many months. The obedient muse has to receive annoying guests at home - her family (the mother of the family is Michelle Pfeiffer) and endure their mediocre advice. Fratricide will cast the Muse’s quiet family hearth into the abyss. She will kill their Child and herself. And the Poet will find inspiration. The circle will close, only to repeat itself again.
The film is thoroughly permeated with biblical quotes. Watching it, it seems that Aronofsky takes particular pleasure in weaving, over the course of two hours of screen time, an insoluble tangle of archetypal human vices and virtues. Like any Aronofsky film, Mama! multi-layered for understanding, everyone will see in it what they want to see. Perhaps, immediately after viewing the picture, the film will seem somewhat straightforward to someone, however, in fact, the themes and questions raised in it are deposited in the subconscious and force one to think for a long time after viewing.
Great cinematography makes “Mama!” unusually expressive and complete. The viewer is presented with a “female” view of this world rushing into the abyss. Through the eyes of the Muse-Jennifer Lawrence, we contemplate all male abuses. By the way, the woman in the picture is presented, at first glance, as an innocent and naive victim, but upon closer examination, she is a strong and integral nature that deserves admiration. Tender and lovely Jennifer Lawrence is amazing in the role of a caring homemaker, a loving Muse and a persistent Mother. The loving director sensitively and tenderly captured his beloved in this film. We hope that everything will be fine for the Lawrence-Aronofsky couple and that no one will die prematurely.
The film will be released in Russia on September 14.
