Previously unknown painting by Fragonard found in France
The family inherited a house in the Marne department between Reims and Paris. In the living room of the house, during an inventory of the inheritance, a painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732 - 1806), unknown to experts, was discovered.
The painting “The Reading Philosopher” by Fragonard did not come to the attention of experts and art historians for more than 200 years, being in a private collection all this time. The authenticity of the painting was confirmed by the famous Parisian examination office of Eric Tuqruin. Cabinet expert Stefan Pinta, having discovered the master's signature on the frame, and also comparing the painting with another work by Fragonard from the Kunsthalle, confirmed the authorship of the famous French artist.
The cabinet of Eric Turkan is famous for discovering works by Cimabue and Caravaggio.
Fragonard's canvas is estimated at 1.5 - 2 euros and will be sold in Epernay on June 000.
