Gallery Île Thélème presented a collection of works by Lydia Khromova

Khromova

In Moscow, the Île Thélème gallery, in collaboration with the Tsarskoye Selo Collection Museum and the heirs, presented an exhibition of the artist Lydia Khromova, which runs from February 16 to March 24, 2024. Khromova is one of the best representatives of the galaxy of artists of the 1930s, who until recently remained unknown.

The work of Lydia Khromova is deeply lyrical and chamber painting, the main themes of which are home, garden and family. The artist's style is soft and impressionistic. Her still lifes are serene, her portraits are feminine, and the wild elements of the landscape seem to be tamed. Friends associated her style with Alfred Sisley. The French school remained the standard for many artists of the 1930s. The four-volume “Masters of Art on Art” edited by B. Ternovets, letters from Vincent van Gogh, Gustave Flaubert and Delacroix’s diary were on Khromova’s desk. But she also valued Russian icons, as the viewer of the exhibition can also see.

At the same time, the exhibition also presents Khromova’s expressive early graphics, primarily on the theme of motherhood. Unfortunately, the drawings and watercolors of the artist’s mature years were lost in a fire.

Address: st. Pravdy 24/11, Île Thélème gallery (metro Savelovskaya/Belorusskaya). Free admission.
