Expert Eric Turkan sold a Fragonard painting for €7

The auction for the sale of Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s painting “The Reading Philosopher” has ended in Champagne. The painting was sold to a private individual by telephone for €6 (€300 with commission). Thus, the final cost of the painting exceeded the estimated value by 000 times. Turkan himself and the head of the examination office of the same name kept in touch with the client, which allows us to conclude that the client was the most important for the expert. The auctioneer was Maître Antoine Petit, and this painting by Fragonard was first attributed by expert Stefan Pinta, a member of the examination cabinet.

Eric Turcan is perhaps the most famous painting expert in France, known for his collaboration with the most famous auction houses (Sotheby's) and high-profile auction sales of paintings by Caravaggio and Cimabue attributed to him.
