At the Russian Antique Salon they will show “Property of the Nation”: Aivazovsky, modern furniture and jewelry

The Russian Antique Salon, the main event in the antiques industry in Russia, will be held for the 49th time in Moscow at Gostiny Dvor from November 22 to 26, 2023.

This year, the main theme of the salon was announced by the organizers as “Property of the Nation”. Collectors, gallerists and art dealers will show the best of their holdings. All works of art are available for sale.

Suslov fine art gallery by Mikhail Suslov will present paired landscapes “Evening Venice” and “American Ship off the Coast of Naples” by the “king of the sea” Ivan Aivazovsky. The painter is even now highly rated on the Russian and international markets. According to the organizers: “The canvases were painted during the marine painter’s trip to Italy in 1872-1873. The result of the trip was an exhibition of the artist in one of the halls of the Florence Academy of Fine Arts. In the presented canvas “Evening Venice” (1873, oil on canvas, size: 23,5 x 29,5 cm, 55 x 61,5 cm), I. K. Aivazovsky masterfully conveys the calm, pacifying state of the sea element. The painter shows the great city from the Grand Canal with its richly decorated palazzos, shrouded in the golden rays of the warm evening sun. The effect of diffused, dim lighting gives the work depth and transparency. The ship and gondolas sway on the slightly wavy water surface, emphasizing the eternal beauty of the old city. The work “American ship off the coast of Naples. View of Vesuvius" (1873, oil on canvas. 23 x 29 cm) refers to the mature period of the artist’s work. During these years, the artist tries to find states in nature that are close to human experiences, and philosophically contemplates the visible beauty of the surrounding world. An unsurpassed colorist, he creates an image of fragile harmony, unfolding before the viewer a panorama of the Bay of Naples immersed in the sunset rays of the sun. A slightly smoking volcano, light coastal almost transparent waves, a sparkling sea surface - everything is subordinated to a single plan to show the enchanting beauty and harmony of nature.”
