after the funeral review of the performance

Director Vadim Dubrovitsky, founder of La'Theatre, staged the play by the French playwright Yasmina Reza (born in 1959) “Conversations après un enterrement” (1987). In his native France, the play was awarded the Moliere Prize, and Reza was named a living classic of drama. In Russia, premiere shows (18+) took place at the Khamovniki Theater and the A. S. Pushkin Theater. Magazine The Status Symbol publishes a review of the play “Conversations after the Burial.”

after the burial review

Relatives gathered in a country house after the burial of the father of the family. Two sons of the father of the family, Nathan (Evgeny Dyatlov) and Alex (Alexey Vertkov), their beloved Eliza (Tatyana Kazyuchits), daughter of the father of the family Edith (Nelly Uvarova) came to the estate. A brother holds a grudge against his brother for having an affair with his woman, who cannot decide on her feelings. My sister is unhappy in her personal life. A married couple of retirement age, Pierre (Valentin Smirnitsky) and Julienne (Rosa Khairullina), are together, but they are not at all alike. Behind conversations about nothing, everyone hides their inner tragedy and life grievances. The superficial chatter at the beginning gives the production a meditative quality. At the beginning of the play, one of the brothers seeks to collect thistles from his father's grave. In classical art, the thistle refers to the Passion of Christ. Another brother commits adultery at his father's grave. A series of sins burdens human souls already filled with grievances. Surrounded by people filled with grievances, only Julien, brilliantly performed by Rosa Khairullina, is an example of perseverance and integrity, even a happy fate. Will the Savior come to the aid of the fallen? Finally, almost a happy ending. Everyone saves their soul themselves. How? Finally, by talking to your neighbor.

Containment of feelings and grievances is emphasized by monochrome decorations (artist Nikolai Simonov). As passions heat up, rain pours down on the heroes. Real, like genuine human feelings.
