An exhibition of Svetlana Malakhova opened at Omelchenko gallery

Omelchenko Gallery presented an exhibition of contemporary artist Svetlana Malakhova “Breaking the Geometry of the Body”, which will be open until September 27, 2023.

“The artist discusses the topic of the human body and explores the possibilities of conveying it on canvas. Svetlana interweaves figurative and abstract energy with the help of a unique line, achieving a balance between fundamentally different poles,” say representatives of the gallery.

The curator of the exhibition, Artyom Zakharov, analyzed the painter’s work in the following way: “Her stroke is the body, and the body is the stroke.” Malakhova works impasto, and the main theme of her work at the moment is female corporeality.

Malakhova received a classical academic education. “The Stroganov Academy gave me a thorough understanding of form and design. The art school in Florence, where I devoted a summer exclusively to drawing, gave me an understanding of tone. The New York Academy of Arts instilled in me the concept of a concept in art, all my painting was honed at the Repin Academy of Arts during a long internship over several years,” says the painter. Nowadays, Svetlana’s works are constantly exhibited at Russian and foreign art fairs, exhibitions, and are also presented in private and institutional collections.

Svetlana Malakhova is a brilliant colorist. In her artistic interpretation, human skin, like a mirror, reflects the color diversity of the world. Svetlana's painting is not devoid of such creative references as representatives of the London School, such as Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud.
